      An interesting week in August

We had an interesting week in August. Most of our events happen on a Friday or Saturday, but this week we had some unusual days and interesting events.

Monday we were at RWCMD in the Union bar. We were providing entertainment for an annual event that they were hosting this year. A bunch of NUS officers were having a conference. This day proved that you can Conga to anything- even recent chart tunes if you want!

Wednesday I was DJing for the 18th Birthday of a past 50th Birthday client. We had some great dancing- especially considering it was a Wednesday!

      Callum from Love Island

Thursday I was DJing for the “I Wish I Went To Prom” Prom with Capital FM. This took place at The Philharmonic, and it was totally fun to be part of the team and provide entertainment for people who never went to their Proms back in the day. It was fun working with Kally and Josh the Wales teatime presenters, and Matt Lissack, who used to present Breakfast.

Friday I was expecting a quiet evening… but around lunchtime I received a call from Charlotte who was organising a surprise 30th birthday party for her husband Marc. Two weeks is a short time to plan a party beginning to end… and the day of the party is quite short notice to book a DJ. I was delighted to help, and she was over the moon. Small touches like the light box with his name on it were appreciated.

Saturday I was DJing for a 60th Birthday of a good friend of mine, Kathy Plaster who is Principal of 344 Dance Centre and The Dance Station in Bristol. The entertainment was full and varied, and she was honoured as she should by many appreciative friends and past pupils. Oscar Anderson who has played a Porter on Casualty- almost since the start of the series was there as guest. As I do a little film extra work myself, it was nice to see him in a social context. He kindly helped my load the car at the end!

      A busy busy night!

8th December was very busy for SGDJs. I was pleased to see that all of the bookings were for returning clients.

Joff was at City Hall, DJing for a charity event for Orthopaedic doctors, with Lizzie on the Selfie Wizard. The Assembly room holds up to 500 people, and so the Platinum package it had to be. Podiums and moving heads plus gobo lights on the booth were provided. A great night was had by all, and we are looking forward to seeing them again in 2020.

June was in Penarth serving a client who was hosting a work party. A musical theme of 70’s and 80’s Disco, complete with mirror ball and fancy dress was totally fun.

James was at St Athan partying until the small hours.

Alex was in Newport for a Christmas party and Paul was at another!

So remember- we are a team. We have more than one DJ to go around. Try us for size … any size!

House Party to mega big. 🙂

Tony & Mo’s Joint 65th Birthday @ East Glos Club, Cheltenham

Tony & Mo had a Great Gadsby Theme, which meant there were lots of lovely period styled outfits worn. I played 20’s music for the early part of the evening- up until the buffet. The food was lovely- provided by venue staff, and the warm weather meant some enjoyed sitting outside to eat.

Plenty of disco dancing- music from 50’s through to the present day.

      Catherine’s 40th @ Canada Lodge

On this occasion I shared the entertainment space with a band called Back to November who are from Barry.  Four pleasant and talented musicians/vocalists who perform with great harmonies. They plugged their mics into our sound system, and did 2 x  45 min sets.

Catherine had chosen some advance requests which included tunes from Kool and the Gang, Dr. Hook, Jessie J and Robyn Thicke. A happy collection of guests who enjoyed these and other pop and soul numbers. The weather warnings did not prevent a good turn out, and the wood fires were very cosy.

It was lovely to see this couple again, having DJed for their Wedding in Miskin Manor in 2011.

1st February 2014; Barry and Sue McKeever’s Anniversary Party at Cardiff Country Hall

I first spoke to Sue in November, and booked the party. They got married on 14th February 1984, so this was their 30th anniversary. I asked if they had a first dance on the day, and they didn’t. So- 30 years later at their party, they did!

Background music consisted of a mix of tunes from the 60’s- 80’s, and their advance requested songs included music from The Kinks, The Beatles, Bob Marley, Madness and Simply Red. After the buffet, they did their first dance to “Twist and Shout” by The Beatles. All guests’ requests were played, and there was some epic dancing. Barry and Sue chose to end the night with some slow romantic songs- the last of which was “Wonderful Tonight” by Eric Clapton.

Barry asked everyone for a round of applause for me, June, the DJ at the end of the night, as everyone had enjoyed themselves. Thank you, Barry.

      What a lovely couple!

IKEA Cardiff Transformed into an adult play area and Nightclub!

Just been going through some old images and below is a little story about what we did with IKEA back in 2008/9.

You’ll never look at IKEA Cardiff the same but at their request, we transformed their store into a Nightclub. A little unusual we will admit but something that we here at SGDJ jumped at the opportunity to do! With a little help from our sister company (Impact Effects) and in collaboration with Dragon Bouncy Castles and White Fusion, we provided a very different ‘day at the office’.

      Ikea 12

Everything you would not expect to find in IKEA, you actually found! On the ground level there was our very own Rodeo Sheep, Gladiators and an inflatable slide and bungee run!

On the first floor you were treated to a massive club standard sound system, a bouncy castle, sumo suits and over 2000watts of UV lighting on the Dancefloor! To top things off Staff were even treated to a FREE BAR!
